Joby Aviation raises FY26 revenue outlook 15% as eIPP flights and defense contracts accelerate path to certification

Joby Aviation lifted its full-year 2026 revenue guidance by 15 percent and completed the first crewed eVTOL flights under the federal government’s Integration Pilot Program, moving the electric air taxi maker closer to commercial operations while simultaneously expanding its defense business through a planned acquisition of Resonant Sciences.

The shareholder letter filed with the quarterly results does not disclose absolute revenue figures for Q3 2026 or revised full-year revenue targets in dollars. The 15 percent guidance raise signals material upward momentum from prior expectations, though the document leaves the baseline and new target unstated. Blade, Joby’s existing air taxi service operating in New York, flew more than 44,000 passengers in Q3 2026, up from the prior year period; New York airport service passenger numbers rose 61 percent year-over-year. The company holds $2.2 billion in cash and short-term investments as of September 30, 2026.

Joby completed the first U.S. eIPP demonstration flights in Texas in September and Florida in October, executing precision vertical takeoffs and landings at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Tampa International Airport. The company also flew a 3,199-mile autonomous route across the United States with zero disengagements, a demonstration that led to expanded Air Force contracts now valued at approximately $37 million. The planned acquisition of Resonant Sciences, a low-observability technology firm with more than $100 million in trailing-twelve-month revenue as of July 2026 and growing approximately 40 percent year-over-year, is expected to close early 2027 and will house Joby’s defense work separately from its commercial aviation division.

What it means

The revenue guidance raise rests on two distinct engines. Blade’s 44,000-passenger quarter and 61 percent year-over-year growth in New York airport service represent operational traction in an existing, revenue-generating business; this is the only disclosed financial metric showing commercial momentum. The eIPP flights and Resonant Sciences acquisition, by contrast, are pre-revenue catalysts. Neither generates near-term cash. The eIPP program allows Joby to fly demonstration routes and gather FAA-required operational data, but the letter explicitly states the path runs from pilot-only flights to non-paying passengers to paying passengers as certification progresses. The Resonant acquisition, closing early 2027, separates defense work from commercial operations but does not itself accelerate the electric air taxi to market.

The guidance raise thus appears to reflect either higher expectations for Blade’s near-term passenger growth or revised assumptions about defense revenue timing and scale. The letter does not clarify which. Blade’s 61 percent year-over-year New York growth is substantial, but the company does not state the absolute passenger base or revenue per passenger, making it impossible to model whether this growth rate sustains or whether Blade’s contribution to the 15 percent guidance raise is material or marginal.

On certification, Joby has completed stages one through three of a five-stage path to type certification and finished significant “for credit” tests covering fuselage, propeller hubs, tail, and landing gear. The FAA has approved test reports for the inboard nacelle, landing gear, and tail tip nacelle beam. Stage 4 (Testing & Analysis) is 25 percent complete on Joby’s side and 14 percent complete on the FAA’s side as of October 30, 2026. The letter states that FAA pilot training and Joby flight testing for Type Inspection Authorization are expected in the first half of 2027, and that carrying passengers under the eIPP will require companies to be in substantial TIA testing. This suggests passenger operations could begin late 2027 at earliest, contingent on TIA progress. The letter does not disclose whether the 15 percent revenue guidance raise assumes passenger revenue in 2026 (unlikely given the timeline) or reflects revised expectations for 2027 and beyond.

What to watch

Joby’s next quarterly earnings call will disclose Q3 2026 revenue in absolute dollars and the revised full-year 2026 guidance figure. That disclosure will show whether the 15 percent raise is driven by Blade’s existing operations, defense contract timing, or revised assumptions about eIPP commercialization timing. The FAA’s approval of TIA flight testing protocols and Joby’s commencement of TIA flights in the first half of 2027 will signal whether the path to passenger operations remains on track.
